हान कांग का जन्म 1970 में दक्षिण कोरिया के ग्वांगजू में हुआ था। नौ साल की उम्र में वह परिवार के साथ सियोल चली गईं। वह साहित्यिक पृष्ठभूमि से आती हैं।

हान कांग के प्रकाशनों में एक लघु कहानी संग्रह, फ्रूट्स ऑफ माई वूमन (2000), फ़ायर सैलामैंडर (2012); ब्लैक डियर (1998), योर कोल्ड हैंड्स (2002), द वेजिटेरियन (2007), ब्रीथ फाइटिंग (2010), और ग्रीक लेसन्स (2011), ह्यूमन एक्ट्स (2014), द व्हाइट बुक (2016), आई डू नॉट बिड फेयरवेल (2021) जैसे उपन्यास शामिल हैं। एक कविता संग्रह, आई पुट द इवनिंग इन द ड्रॉअर (2013) भी प्रकाशित हुआ।

हाल ही में प्रकाशित उनके उपन्यास ‘आई डू नॉट बिड फेयरवेल’ को 2023 में फ्रांस में मेडिसिस पुरस्कार, 2024 में एमिल गुइमेट पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। समिति ने कहा कि हान कांग के काम की विशेषता दर्द के इस दोहरे प्रदर्शन से है, मानसिक और शारीरिक पीड़ा के बीच एक पत्राचार जो पूर्वी सोच से घनिष्ठ संबंध रखता है।
