मैकलोडगंज (Mcleodganj) हिमाचल प्रदेश के कांगड़ा (Kangra) जिले के धर्मशाला नगर का एक उपनगर है। धौलाधार पर्वतश्रेणी में स्थित इस कस्बे की समुद्र तल से औसत ऊंचाई 2,082 मीटर है। इसका उच्चतम शिखर हनुमान टिब्बा लगभग 5,639 मीटर ऊंचा है। मैकलोडगंज तिब्बती बौद्ध धर्मगुरु 14वें दलाई लामा के निवास स्थान के रूप में भी प्रसिद्ध है।

धर्मशाला (Dharamshala) और मैकलोडगंज (Mcleodganj) घूमने का कार्यक्रम बनाने के दौरान यह तय करना मुश्किल था कि धर्मशाला तक कैसे पहुंचा जाये। दरअसल, दिल्ली से धर्मशाला करीब 470 किलोमीटर दूर है। दिल्ली से शिमला की फ्लाइट के बाद वहां से आगे का लगभग 226 किमी लम्बा सफर बस या टैक्सी से करना था। इस दौरान दो से तीन घण्टे का समय हवाईअड्डों पर चेक-इन और चेक-आउट में लगना तय था। अन्ततः तय हुआ कि मजनू का टीला से चलने वाली निजी बस से धर्मशाला (Dharamshala) पहुंचा जाये। हमने तुरन्त दो सीट रिजर्व कराईं। रात 09:30 बजे रवाना हुई इस बस ने मुरथल में आधा घण्टे के ठहराव के बावजूद सुबह करीब साढ़े सात बजे हमें धर्मशाला पहुंचा दिया। यहां से हमने टैक्सी ली और मात्र आधा घण्टे में मैकलोडगंज (Mcleodganj) पहुंच गये।

हिमाचल प्रदेश में पर्यटन की बात आने पर मैकलोडगंज (Mcleodganj) का नाम सहज ही जुबां पर आ जाता है। इस अत्यन्त खूबसूरत स्थान पर करने को बहुत कुछ है। आप ट्रैकिंग कर सकते हैं और नदी-जलप्रपात के किनारे बेफिक्र होकर टहल सकते हैं। बोटिंग, हाइकिंग करने के बाद थकान हावी होने लगे तो कैम्पिंग कर सकते हैं। यहां के बाजर में घूमते हुए स्थानीय हस्तशिल्प उत्पादों को स्मृतिचिन्ह के तौर पर खरीद सकते हैं।

मैकलोडगंज का इतिहास (History of Mcleodganj)
मैकलोडगंज कांगड़ा जिले में आता है जिसे महाभारत के युद्ध के बाद राजा सुशर्मा चन्द्र ने बसाया था। कांगड़ा कभी चन्द्र वंश की राजधानी हुआ करता था। तीन हजार साल पहले के कुछ ग्रन्थों के अलावा पुराणों, महाभारत और राजतरंगिणी में भी इसका उल्लेख है। राजा हर्षवर्धन के शासनकाल के दौरान 629 से 644 ईसवी के बीच चीन के शोधार्थी य़ात्री ह्वेन त्सांग ने यहां का दौरा किया था। उसने अपने यात्रा वृत्तांत और पत्रों में इसका उल्लेख किया है। उसके पत्रों के अनुसार, राजा हर्षवर्धन ने नगरकोट (कांगड़ा जिले का पुराना नाम) पर कब्जा कर लिया था। नगरकोट उस समय त्रिगर्त या जालन्धर राज्य की राजधानी हुआ करती थी। इसके काफी बाद 1009 ईसवी में नगरकोट के धार्मिक खजाने पर महमूद गजनवी की नजर पड़ी और उसने यहां के शासकों को पराजित कर कांगड़ा किले पर कब्जा कर लिया और जमकर लूटपाट की। लूटपाट का यह क्रम 1360 ईसवी तक चलता रहा। 1556 ईसवी में मुगल बादशाह जहांगीर ने कांगड़ा किले पर कब्जा कर लिया। इसके अलावा भी कई राजाओं ने समय-समय पर कांगड़ा पर शासन किया।
ब्रिटिश काल के दौरान 1885 ईसवी में इस स्थान का नाम पंजाब के लेफ्टिनेंट गवर्नर रहे सर डोनाल्ड फ्रील मैकलियोड के नाम पर रखा गया। दरअसल, 21 मार्च 1862 से 20 नवम्बर 1863 तक लॉर्ड एल्गिन भारत के ब्रिटिश वायसराय थे। इस स्थान की सैर करने पर उन्हें यह जगह स्कॉटलैण्ड में स्थित अपने गृहनगर के जैसी लगी और उन्होंने इसका नाम मैकलोडगंज रखा दिया। लॉर्ड एल्गिन की मृत्यु के बाद उनके पार्थिव शरीर को फोर्सिथगंज में स्थित सेन्ट जॉन्स चर्च में दफनाया गया। 1905 ईसवी में आये भूकम्प ने कांगड़ा के साथ-साथ मैकलोडगंज को भी तबाह कर दिया। दलाई लामा के आगमन के बाद यह शहर धीरे-धीरे फिर बसने लगा।
मैकलोडगंज में भले ही तिब्बती सभ्यता-संस्कृति का व्यापक प्रभाव हो पर इसके आसपास के स्थानों पर हिन्दू धर्म का प्रभाव है। 51 शक्तिपीठों में से एक ज्वालादेवी शक्तिपीठ यहां से बमुश्किल 60 किलोमीटर दूर है। इसके अलावा भी यहां कई प्रसिद्ध मन्दिर हैं।
मैकलोडगंज के दर्शनीय-घूमने योग्य स्थान (Places to visit in Mcleodganj)
त्रिउण्ड पर्वत :
समुद्र तल से 2,826 मीटर ऊंचा त्रिउण्ड (ट्रायण्ड) पर्वत ट्रैकिंग के लिए एक आदर्श स्थान है जहां से पूरी कांगड़ा घाटी के खूबसूरत नज़ारे दिखाई देते हैं। यह एक छोटा और सरल ट्रैक है जो मैकलोडगंज से दो किलोमीटर आगे से शुरू होता है। त्रिउण्ड पर रात के समय कैम्पिंग कर चांद-सितारों का अद्भुत नजारा देख सकते हैं।
भागसूनाथ मन्दिर और जलप्रपात :
शंकुधारी जंगलों, पहाड़ियों और एक झरने से घिरा यह मन्दिर स्थानीय हिन्दुओं, विशेषरूप से गोरखाओं का अत्यधिक पूजनीय है। यहां स्थित दो कुण्डों के जल को पवित्र और चामत्कारिक औषधीय गुणों से युक्त माना जाता है। मन्दिर के पास ही है धर्माशाला का सबसे लोकप्रिय पर्यटन स्थल भागसू जलप्रपात। यह प्रपात मैकलोडगंज को जोड़ने वाली मुख्य सड़क के पास है।
मसरूर मन्दिर : भगवान राम को समर्पित यह मन्दिर मैकलोडगंज कस्बे से लगभग 15 किलोमीटर दूर है। एक झील के पास स्थित इसके विशाल परिसर में कई सुन्दर मूर्तियों और नक्काशी है।
गुना देवी मन्दिर : बांज और देवदार के पेड़ों से घिरा यह मन्दिर देवी काली को समर्पित है। यह मैकलोडगंज के केन्द्र से लगभग तीन किलोमीटर दूर है। एक पहाड़ी पर स्थित इस मन्दिर से आसपास का सुन्दर नजारा दिखता है।
नामग्याल मठ :
यह तिब्बत के बाहर सबसे बड़ा तिब्बती बौद्ध मठ है। इसको 14वें दलाई लामा के मठ के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। यहां विभिन्न बौद्ध प्रथाओं जैसे कालचक्र, वज्रकिलया, गुह्यसमाज, यमंतक और चक्रसंवर से जुड़े अनुष्ठान होते हैं। इसके परिसर में ही नामग्याल तान्त्रिक कॉलेज है।
दलाई लामा का मन्दिर :
इस परिसर को त्सुगलगखांग के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। दलाई लामा यहीं रहते हैं। मुख्य मन्दिर के बगल में एक छोटा पश्चिमी हॉल (कालचक्र मन्दिर), तिब्बती संग्रहालय और स्मारिका भण्डार है। यहां भगवान बुद्ध की सोने का पानी चढ़ी एक विशाल मूर्ति तथा गुरु रिनपोछे और चेनरेसिंग की मूर्तियां हैं। यहां बौद्ध दर्शन के अध्ययन की व्यवस्था है।
तिब्बती प्रदर्शन कला संस्थान :
तिब्बती इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ परफॉर्मिंग आर्ट्स मैकलोडगंड की सबसे अच्छी जगहों में से एक है। इसकी स्थापना दलाई लामा द्वारा की गयी थी। यहां आप तिब्बती संस्कृति के बारे में जानने-समझने के साथ ही पारम्परिक तिब्बती संगीत सुन और नृत्य प्रदर्शन देख सकते हैं। इसके परिसर में कुछ दिलचस्प प्रदर्शनियों के साथ एक संग्रहालय भी है। यहां पहुंचने के लिए आपको डल झील से टैक्सी या कैब बुक करनी होगी।
सेन्ट जॉन्स चर्च : मैकलोडगंज के इस सबसे प्रसिद्ध चर्च का निर्माण 19वीं शताब्दी में हुआ था। यह धर्मशाल से मैकलोडगंज जाते समय रास्ते में पड़ता है। बांज, देवदार आदि के विशाल वृक्षों से घिरे इस चर्च का सुहावना और शान्त वातावरण पर्यटकों को बहुत पसन्द आता है।
मिंकियानी दर्रा :
यह दर्रा धौलाधार पर्वतमाला का एक हिस्सा है जो प्रकृति के कुछ शानदार दृश्य प्रस्तुत करता है। मिंकियानी दर्रा पर्यटकों को एक अच्छा ट्रैकिंग अनुभव भी प्रदान करता है। इसके आसपास के जंगलों में पक्षियों और तेंदुओं की कई प्रजातियां देखने को मिलती हैं।
करेरी झील :
ऊंचाई वाले इलाके में स्थित करेरी मीठे पानी की झील है जो मैकलोडगंज से शुरू होकर करेन गांव तक जाती है। इसे धौलाधार पर्वत श्रृंखला की बर्फ से पानी मिलता है जो गर्म मौसम में पिघल जाती है। चूंकि बर्फ इसका मुख्य जल स्रोत है, इसलिए इसका पानी लगभग क्रिस्टल क्लियर जैसा है। यह स्थान ट्रैकिंग और फोटोग्राफी के लिए बहुत अच्छा माना जाता है।
कांगड़ा किला :
मैकलोडगंज से करीब 20 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित कांगड़ा किला हिमाचल प्रदेश में मौजूद किलों में सबसे विशाल और भारत में पाये जाने किलों में सबसे पुराना है। स्थानीय मान्यता के अनुसार लगभग 3,500 साल पहले कटोच वंश के महाराजा सुशर्मा चन्द्र ने इस किले का निर्माण करवाया था। सिकन्दर के युद्ध सम्बन्धी रिकॉर्ड में इस दुर्ग का उल्लेख है जिससे ईसा पूर्व चौथी शताब्दी में इसका विद्यमान होना सिद्ध होता है।
कई ऐतिहासिक युद्धों का गवाह रहा यह किला लगातार मुगल सल्तनत के निशाने पर रहा जिसकी फौज ने इस पर कई बार आक्रमण किया। 1615 में मुगल बादशाह अकबर ने इस किले की घेराबंदी की परन्तु वह इस पर कब्जा नहीं कर पाया। 1620 में उसके पुत्र जहांगीर ने चम्बा के राजा को मजबूर करके इस किले पर कब्ज़ा कर लिया। बाद के दिनों में यह महाराजा रणजीत सिंह और ईस्ट इण्डिया कम्पनी के अधीन रहा। चार अप्रैल 1905 में आये भीषण विनाशकारी भूकम्प ने इस किले को भारी क्षति पहुंचायी।
माझी और बाणगंगा नदियों के संगम के पास 463 एकड़ में फैले इस किले से धौलाधार का खूबसूरत नजारा दिखता है। किले में 11 द्वार और 23 गढ़ हैं। मुख्य मन्दिर के द्वार के ठीक बाहर सबसे प्रमुख रक्षा द्वार है जिसे अंधेरी दरवाजा के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह सात मीटर ऊंचा है जिसमें से दो आदमी या एक घोड़ा गुजर सकता है। इस दरवाजे का निर्माण दुश्मन सैनिकों के हमले को रोकने के लिए किया गया था। भारत को स्वतन्त्रता मिलने के बाद भारतीय पुरसतत्व सर्वेक्षण (एएसआई) ने एक निश्चित समझौते के तहत कटोच राजवंश के महाराजा जय चन्द्र को यह किला वापस कर दिया।
डल झील : समुद्र तल से करीब 1,800 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर स्थित डल झील पहाड़ों और देवदार के विशाल वृक्षों से घिरी हुई है। यह मैकलोडगंज में घूमने की कुछ सबसे अच्छी जगहों में से एक है।
धर्मकोट :
मैकलोडगंज में तिब्बती बौद्ध संस्कृति और सभ्यता का व्यापक प्रभाव है लेकिन इससे महज दो किलोमीटर दूर स्थित धर्मकोट में हर तरफ इजरायल के पर्यटक नजर आएंगे। यहां के रेस्तरां से लेकर दुकानें तक सबकुछ इजरायली रंग में रंगे हुए हैं। इस कारण इसे “मिनी इजरायल” भी कहा जाता है। ऊंची पहाड़ी पर बसा यह क्षेत्र चारों तरफ से देवदार के वृक्षों से घिरा है, यही कारण है कि गर्मी के दिनों में यह पर्यटन स्थल ठंडक का एहसास करवाता है। धर्मशाला के मुकाबले यहां का तामपान छह से सात डिग्री सेल्सियस तक कम रहता है।
नड़डी :
धर्मकोट से करीब दो किमी की दूरी पर स्थित यह छोटा-सा गांव अपने सूर्यास्त और सूर्योदय के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। धर्मकोट से ट्रैकिंग करते हुए भी यहां तक पहुंच सकते सकते हैं।
तिब्बती बाजार :
यह मैकलोडगंज का सबसे प्रसिद्ध बाजार है जहां आप कई प्रकार की चीजों की खरीददारी कर सकते हैं जिनमें तिब्बती कपड़े, गहने आदि तिब्बती हस्तशिल्प उत्पाद शामिल हैं। यहां आप स्मृति चिन्ह के रूप में अपने, अपने परिवार और मित्रों के लिए कुछ सामान खरीद सकते हैं।

वायु मार्ग : निकटतम हवाईअड्डा कांगड़ा-गग्गल एयरपोर्ट यहां से करीब 29 किलोमीटर दूर है लेकिन यहां के लिए बहुत कम उड़ानें हैं। शिमला एयरपोर्ट यहां से करीब 236 किमी पड़ता है। बेहतर होगा कि आप शिमला तक विमान से पहुंचने के बाद आगे का सफर बसे या टैक्सी से करें।
रेल मार्ग : निकटकतम बड़ा रेलवे स्टेशन पठानकोट जंक्शन यहां से करीब 92 किमी है। देश के लगभग सभी प्रमुख स्थानों से पठानकोट के लिए ट्रेन मिलती हैं जहां से आगे का सफर बस, टैक्सी या कैब से कर मैकलोडगंज पहुंच सकते हैं।
सड़क मार्ग : चण्डीगढ़, पठानकोट और शिमला से धर्मशाला के लिए नियमित रूप से सरकारी और निजी बस चलती हैं जहां से पर्यटक आसानी से मैकलोडगंज पहुंच सकते हैं।
