ब्राह्मी (Brahmi) नामक जड़ी-बूटी का नाम लगभग सभी ने सुना होगा, कभी न कभी ब्राह्मी आंवला केश तेल तो लगाया ही होगा। एक बार जब मम्मी-पापा से मिलने गांव वाले घर गया तो आंगन में ब्राह्मी को फलते-फूलते पाया। ब्राह्मी हमारे यहां नदी, नहर और तालाब के किनारे नमी वाली भूमि पर अक्सर उग आती है किंतु आजकल सब जगह खेत बन गए हैं तो जड़ी-बूटियों के उगने के लिए ज्यादा जगह नही बची है। मनुष्य के अतिक्रमण का शिकार ये जड़ी-बूटियां भी हो रही हैं। ब्राह्मी अब गांव से भी लुप्त होती जा रही है।

मां ने बताया कि लोग जड़ी-बूटियों का उपयोग भूलते जा रहे हैं। अब गांव में इक्का-दुक्का लोग जो इनके प्रयोग के बारे में जानते भी हैं, उन्हें भी ब्राह्मी अब सहज ही उपलब्ध नहीं हैं। ऐसे में जब घर में ब्राह्मी के पौधे को फलते-फूलते पाया तो सोचा आप सबसे इसके बारे में जामकारी शेयर कर लिया जाए।

अपने देश में ब्राह्मी (Brahmi) दो जड़ी-बूटियों का कहा जाता है यहां पर मैं आपको जिसके बारे में बताऊंगा उसे मण्डूकपर्णी भी कहते हैं। इसका वानस्पतिक नाम Bacopa monnieri  है। पूरे दक्षिण एशिया क्षेत्र श्रीलंका, थाईलैंड आदि में इसे गोटू काला कहते हैं। इन देशों में इसका प्रयोग साग और चटनी के रूप में किया जाता है। इसका शेक बनाकर भी पिया जाता है।
